Klarna is the Swedish payments startup founded in 2005, that lets online shoppers buy items by submitting their email. Klarna effectively extends the buyer credit, purchasing the items on their behalf and then emailing them later to follow up with payment details. The service is hugely popular in its native Sweden and Scandinavia as a whole.
In Sweden, Klarna processes an incredible 30% of all sales online and processed $9 billion in 2014. It’s valued at $2.25 billion and counts renowned Silicon Valley VC firm Sequoia Capital as an investor.
In early 2015, Klarna did not have any brand presence in UK, Germany or Holland. Though successful in Sweden, the business model was unproven in other markets and was surrounded by skepticism.
Roles were perceived as high risk and Klarna struggled to attract a team who could give them the first wins within the new regions as they were unknown outside of Sweden and wished to remain in stealth mode.
360Leaders mapped the wide pool of international talent in the eCommerce payment space, then approached and presented a compelling story about Klarna and its future potential to business leaders in specified competitors, running a robust and efficient selection process.
360Leaders has hired numerous members of the senior executive team.
Assignments included four International Business Development Directors, KAM Norway, Head of Corporate Development, Head of Solutions Engineering, Head of Product Management, and MD UK.
