Secret Escapes, founded in 2010, is a members-only website that runs flash sales of four- and five-star hotels and holidays globally. The holidays include everything from city breaks to luxury European getaways and long-haul holidays, with travel included. Currently the company has over 25 million members worldwide.
In a rapidly evolving industry and with the flash sales space being quite turbulent, Secret Escapes had to maintain its momentum and drive forward with their extremely successful business model.
With additional funding of $60m, the founders decided this was the right time to bring someone in to build a best-in- industry sales team, managing supply globally from their London headquarters. This person needed to have international sales experience, be extremely data driven and understand high growth online businesses, specifically flash sales and/or online travel.
Mapped the global market within flash sales, online travel and e-commerce. This was done in the space of two weeks to give the Founders confidence the right profiles were out there.
A shortlist of 4 candidates was then presented within 4 weeks before a final selection was made.
Sean McDonald was placed as a CSO of Secret Escapes. Since then the company has enjoyed continued success including a testimonial from Secret Escapes, revenue growth linked to Sean, rewards the company has won, company headcount growth, and geographical expansion.
