Widespace is a leading provider of premium mobile advertising solutions, purpose-built for brand marketing. The company was founded in Sweden in 2007 and quickly established itself in Northern Europe. Sharing the same investor and a board member as Spotify (Northzone Ventures), the company has rapidly expanded its international footprint, establishing a presence in Germany, Italy, France, United Kingdom and the US.
Today, Widespace works with top publishers, including Dailymotion, Hearst, and SBS Discovery, and leading global brands and agencies, including BMW, Coca-Cola, American Express, Ikea and Sony.
Widespace had built a dominant position in the European countries it operated in. As a precursor to expansion into the highly competitive US market Widespace needed to diversify its board and bring on a well-recognised industry figure from the US to help advise the business on the most appropriate market positioning, messaging and go-to-market strategy. This NED had to have both the profile and the time allowance to be an active member of the board.
Mapped the North American market primarily concentrating on the AdTech and Agency landscape, but also looking at several of the big internet companies that had made a series of related acquisitions. Seven seasoned executives that had been thoroughly referenced were presented to the board for consideration.
Gregg Colvin was appointed to the board. At the time of the appointment Gregg was COO of Universal McCann’s US operations where he oversaw day to day operations for the 1000 person media company and had oversight of the entire client roster with annual billings of $5bn.
