Vewd hire new CPO in 360Leaders search

In a 360Leaders search led by Ellie Glover, Vewd have hired Sascha Prüter, one of Google’s key Android TV staffers,  as their new CPO.

The new Chief Product Officer will strengthen Vewd’s operator business. Aneesh Rajaram, Vewd’s CEO said “Sascha understands how to design compelling OTT products and has deep commercial insight relevant to global pay TV operators and leading OEMs. His experience creating world-class solutions aligns well with Vewd’s strategic product roadmap.”

Vewd has both an app store for smart TV apps and a smart TV operating system and recently revealed a new customisation of Android TV that allows operators and customers to use Android for their hardware without having to rely on Android TV’s user interface and app store. Previously Opera TV, Vewd spun out of the browser maker following its acquisition by a consortium of Chinese investors in 2016.

Prüter had been working at Google since 2013 and during that time, Google made significant strides with operators, TV manufacturers and other consumer electronics manufacturers. Android TV now runs on a diverse range of hardware from soundbars to cable boxes.

Prüter was in charge of all aspects of Google’s Android TV efforts, including developer advocacy, distribution and OEM relations. Prior to that, Prüter was a Google’s senior program manager for Android TV and the program manager for Android, helping to determine how the platform would move forward with development and distribution. He had also served in similar roles for Microsoft
